Our services in the field of transport insurance
With Mönig, your goods are in the best hands – and with our customized transport insurance, we offer you additional protection against financial risks. By default, all transports are covered by statutory liability bases such as ADSp or CMR. However, these often only cover a fraction of the actual damage, as compensation is calculated on the basis of weight and not the value of the goods.
This statutory liability may not be sufficient, especially for goods with a high individual value. This is where our commercial transport insurance comes into play: it ensures that you are reimbursed for the full value of the goods in the event of a claim – whether for sea freight, rail freight, air freight or road transportation. Rely on our expertise and minimize risks with a solution that is precisely tailored to your requirements.

FAQ on the subject of transport insurance
What happens if damage occurs during transportation due to force majeure?
Damage caused by force majeure, such as natural disasters, strikes or armed conflicts, is generally excluded from liability. This definition corresponds to the standards in the insurance industry and is also applicable to transportation insurance. This also applies to transportation insurance, especially on routes such as Asia-Europe, which run through regions with potential conflicts. Rail carriers often exclude any liability in advance for certain sections of the route, for example through Russia or Ukraine. It is advisable to check the insurance conditions carefully and take out additional insurance if necessary.
What risks does transportation insurance cover?
Transport insurance offers protection against loss, theft, damage due to external influences (e.g. weather, fire) or accidents during transportation. The exact risks depend on the type of cover selected (e.g. all-risk insurance).
Is transport insurance compulsory?
No, transportation insurance is usually voluntary. However, we strongly recommend it to protect your investment.
How is the insured value calculated?
The insured value is made up of the value of the goods, the transportation costs and, if applicable, a profit margin. This guarantees that you will not suffer any financial losses in the event of damage.
What is the difference between all-risk and FPA insurance?
- All-risks insurance: Covers all risks except explicitly excluded events.
- FPA insurance (Free of Particular Average): Offers limited protection, e.g. only in the event of total loss or serious damage.
How do I report damage?
In the event of a claim, contact us directly. We will take all the necessary steps, assist you in reporting the damage and ensure that the claim is settled quickly with the insurance company.
What does deductible mean in transportation insurance?
The excess is the amount that the policyholder must pay in the event of a claim before the insurance takes effect. The amount is agreed individually and can help to reduce insurance premiums.
Does the transport insurance also cover delays in transportation?
Standard transportation insurance does not usually cover financial losses due to delays. For such cases, there are special supplementary insurances that can be considered.
What documents are required to take out insurance?
The following documents are typically required:
- A detailed description of the goods
- Information on the route and means of transportation
- Information on the value of goods and freight costs
Is transport insurance also possible for partial loads?
Yes, partial loads can also be comprehensively insured. The insurance cover is individually tailored to the value and type of partial load.
What happens if the damage is caused by improper packaging?
As a rule, the insurance does not cover damage caused by inadequate or improper packaging. It is therefore important that the packaging meets the insurer’s requirements. We will be happy to advise you on the requirements.
