Our history

Foundation & structure

Milestones in the period from 1957 to 1965: Following the founding of the company by Ernst Mönig in 1957, the timber transportation division is expanded as a first step.

1957

Growth

Milestones in the period from 1966 to 1978: The first roll-off container train is purchased, eliminating the need to load and unload wood chips by hand. From 1977, the range of services is expanded to include metal transportation.

1966

Bernd Mönig takes over sole management of the company after the death of the managing director

Milestones in the period from 1979 to 1991: With the transformation into Mönig Spedition GmbH & Co KG, Bernd Mönig joins the management. In the same year, the company acquires its first long-distance transport concession. In 1991, Bernd Mönig takes over the sole management of the company after the death of the founder.

1991

Gotha branch becomes independent Mönig Gotha GmbH

Milestones in the period from 1992 to 2006: The beverage transportation division is expanded. The branch in Gotha is founded in 2001 and another in Konin, Poland, in 2004. Europe-wide long-distance transportation is spun off into a separate division. In addition, Carsten Mönig and Stefan Schöttler join the management team.

2007

The development continues

Milestones in the period from 2015 to 2021: Expansion continues in recent years. The logistics halls are extended to 12,000 m*. With the establishment of an office in Bremen in 2015, the development of the sea freight division begins. In 2016, the company headquarters are relocated to Meschede-Enste. Alexander Schulz becomes the fourth member of the management team.

Foundation of Mönig Holding GmbH

Milestones in the period from 2022 to today: In December 2021, Bernd Mönig gives up the management of the operational business. Mönig Holding GmbH is founded in 2022 as part of a restructuring of the Mönig Group under company law. The management is continued by Carsten and Carina Mönig in the 3rd generation.
